The Water Cellar for Mothers Project, co-launched by the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and CWDF in 2001, aims to help residents, especially women, of western regions solve their water shortage problems and break free from poverty. By the end of 2011, it had invested more than 600 million yuan (US$ 95.1 million) in China's arid regions and built 128,000 water cellars, benefiting approximately 1.8 million people.
