Tap water is already so common and convenient in the cities where you and I live; with just a slight touch we can get endless clean water. But in the poor and aridregions of Western China, pupils can only get a mouthful of water to wash face before they go to school in themorning ... Mothers only have asmall pot of unclean water for cooking a meal...And throughout the year people can not have a bath ...Not that they do not know about personal hygiene, but because it is really too hard for them to get water.    People there have to walk several or even dozens of kilometers each day just to fetch water. "Shortly after midnight we'll have to set out; hill after hill we'll have to climb; not until dawn do we finally find some water; and get home only by bedtime.” This is a folk song widely sung in the mountain areas of Northwest China, showing the helplessness of the local farmers and the hardship they face for getting drinking water. Due to natural and historical causes, arid regions of Western China, especially Gansu, Ningxia and northern part of Shaanxi are traditionally areas most short of water in China. Average rainfall in those regions is only about 300mm per year while annual volume of evaporation is as high as 1,500-2,000mm or more. Extreme shortage of water has led to general poverty and backwardness of education. Survival and health conditions of local women and children are crying out for improvement as soon as possible. To get more income, men have to look for work far away from home, leaving the burden of maintaining daily life almost entirely on the shoulders of women. One effective way for the local people to get water essential to daily life is to dig a cellar to collect rainwater. 1000 Yuan RMB is enough to build such a water cellar and help out a family from water shortage. But because of extreme poverty, many local families do not have the money to build such cellars. In the vast regions of Western China, nearly 10 million poor mothers are now struggling with extreme shortage of water. They are everyday thinking of water, longing for water, crying for water, dreaming about water and hoping water would come their way from the legendary 5 Lakes and 4 Seas.Poor mothers of Western China are now struggling very hard to get rid of water shortage. They need help and donations from all sectors of society to help them build water cellars and small-scale water supply works. Helping them to collect rainwater is equal to helping them to sow the seeds for a bumper harvest and for a rosy hope of a better future. For every water cellar that we give them today, these poor mothers will return a patch of green land to our motherland tomorrow. Accumulating merit by doing good, helping the distressed and succoring those in peril is among the traditional virtues of the Chinese nation. Please extend your hands, show your love, donate 1000 Yuan and give a piece of green hope to those yearning mothers. Let us join hand in hand to construct "Land of Love, Water Cellar forMothers".
